“We are pleased to announce that the Carriers Arms will be re-opening on Saturday 4th July. Due to social distancing measures we will have less tables available for dining and so would ask that, if possible, you ring and book beforehand to avoid disappointment. Obviously our garden will be available but as ever is dependent upon the weather.
For the time being our hours are also altering slightly. We will not be opening on Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesday to Saturday food will only be served 12-2.15 and 6-8.30, although we will still be open all day for drinks. On Sundays we will still be serving food all day, commencing at 12 noon but orders for food will finish at 5 pm.
We hope you will bear with us over these next few weeks as none of us know what impact Coronavirus will have upon our business so it’s a case of learning as we go along.“

Nestled within the Suffolk countryside lies the village of East Bergholt, historically famous for the 18th/19th century painter John Constable. East Bergholt also lays home to the ‘old english’ style pub and restaurant ‘The Carriers Arms’ formally known as ‘The Carrick Arms’, according to the 1881 census.
A carrier is an old trade usually referring to the landlord also providing transport for goods e.g. coal, timber or lime.
The Carriers is a Grade 2 listed building offering a large fireplace and beamed ceilings, hinting at the buildings historical origins being 14th century in one half and 15th century in the other.
Sharon and Martin have kept many of the original features, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
